Sacred Stitches

Day 7, bandage change in the hospital

Lucy has only had one dose of Tylenol since we've been home.  She finished her oral antibiotics a few days ago.  We are medicine free.  Now it is just her little body fiercely fighting this affliction.

I really hesitated sharing these photos.  Dr. Gooch hesitated even more.  He felt they were "sacred".  Which they are, to us and to Lucy.  But these pictures and the healing they show are a big part of her story, which is part of what I'm doing here in this space.  The first two show her leg and ankle/foot so swollen and raw.  That was Day 4, before Dr. Z sewed it up for good and it still had the drains inside the wound.  Day 1 was July 19th on the beach when it all went down.  Though we have a long way to go (we're on day 16), I see healing happening in these pictures.  Healing is sacred, too.

And the sacred should be shared.

Holy moly! She IS going to have some rockin' scars! I agree, it is very special and sacred that you shared these. First of all it shows the magnitude of what happened and reflects even further how strong you all have been, especially Lucy. Such an incredible miracle that she was so fortunate!!! Still sending lots of prayers your way! If you get a chance to post the link for the Daily Show, I would be interested in seeing it!

These images are indeed sacred, and Lucy's story is a miracle. All of this talk about sacred wounds calls my mind to the Savior and how He showed the nail prints in His hands as a testament of His sacrifice. His wounds are a powerful symbol of His love and of a perfect life that was not spared. Lucy's wounds are another sacred reminder of God's love and of a precious life that was indeed spared. Your little girl is so blessed and is certainly being prepared for more great things. Thank you for sharing her sacred story with us all.

The pictures are sacred, because they perfectly show how amazing our bodies are at healing. I think we all need a reminder every now and again. No?

I'm in awe of Lucy.

Oh, it made my heart ache for her and you; at the same time it made my heart sing at the watchful care each of us have every day of our lives. Lucy is a miracle, her healing is a miracle, and her battle wounds a miracle that she still has a leg to walk on and get better.

Jordan, my friend - so nice to spend a minute early this morning reading about Lucy the Great! The first photos were even worse than I imaged and then the final shots, better than I expected.

A miracle!

My love of God and of His mindfulness of us all has been strengthened.

Tell your Lucy we are part of her vast cheering section.

Much love to all you Mangums.

Wow! Thanks for sharing. You also know that coming from a medical background we no longer know what is "acceptable" in sharing to those that don't hear about life and death and trauma each day, but this is truly a miracle and I am so glad that you guys have the positive attitudes you have! You are all inspirations!
Happy she is healing so nicely!

These pictures were so humbling to me. I often have a hard time feeling that god is really there. I appreciate you sharing this. It is a true reminder to me to turn to Him continually. That he is mindful of us. I needed that. Thanks for such a powerful testimony.

Wow. I was out of the country when all this happened - I heard only snippets. How life changing - for everyone. My prayer is that it builds greater wisdom in you as you navigate the aftershocks of things settling, that the kids feel even just a seed of greater love for each other, and that Lucy's injuries are only physical while her spirit, mind, and emotions are untouched. All our best wishes to you guys!
