I love a lot about this picture. First and most obvious is that an actual shadow puppet show occurred in my family room. Then there is Ann's face in the background, baby on bosom. I love the other camera peeking around the sheet to record the Man (and Woman) behind the scene (literally).
But mostly I love this moment of Jacob coming to life, giving us an outward glimpse of the spark the goodness, the creativity, and humor that lies inside his soft shell. I say soft, because there is nothing NOTHING hard about Jacob. He is all soft and all lacking in guile. But, he saves his contained treasures for those patient enough to see them, really see them. For those smart enough to draw them out. For those worthy enough of their bright and shine.
I love Jacob. We watch his well-formed, beautiful shadow dance on the stage of this world, but behind the scenes is a deep and abiding love for people that most only graze in this life. Lucky lucky, those few that get a glimpse.
Happy Birthday Brother.
PS Next year let's celebrate together on Friday the 13th.
