Southeastern Fall

Autumn comes on gradually in Carolina.
She drags it out, bending all the rules
spitting in the face of winter.
Stepping on his snowy foot and calling out,
"No!  Not yet!  You harbinger of shivers and gray!"
Then moving forward she strings holidays together with color and calm.
And on an especially goading year,
She'll let you pick broccoli
for Thanksgiving
and carrots
for Christmas.

What an autumn!

We're still in summer--into the 90s all this week, so if the shiver of fall has come too soon for you, come on down.
