Post-Run Dip and Paying It Forward

When I came home this morning this is where the sun was perched. Is it extra bright here?

There are long term consequences to giving birth to three children. I felt them on my 6-mile attempt at running today (at least that is my present excuse). I wanted to jump into the canal I was jogging beside. I was hoping for a much more energetic run, inspired by my lovely friend and her recent discovery of the "runner's high". I wanted to feel this, but it was not this morning's fate. I came home to oatmeal cooking on the stove and as the rush of breakfast went on the sweat just would not quit. So, still in my gear, sans shoes, I took a post-runner's dip:

Aaaah...and decided, though my race is only two weeks away, I will be fine for these reasons: It is only half of a marathon, Craig will be by my side urging me on, and of course there are those water/snack stations, plus--let us not underestimate the power of "race adrenaline". I'll be fine, won't I?

A unexpected cheer-up today made the above picture possible--notice those lovely lined and glossed lips and a mask to mask any premature or unwanted disturbances to my sleep...who are these girls that gather their favorite things together and send them to people (all goodies not pictured)? (I actually do know who they are--you are gems, just gems!) Thanks for the little luxury found on my step today.

***To "pay it forward" I will randomly draw one name out of all comments left on this post and send that person a selection of my "favorite things". You guys, I'm serious. You have great odds here--my comments max out at like--sixteen.***

You will rise to the occasion, and get that "runner's high".

I would love to see what your favorites are, so add me to the list of possibilities.

I have to comment on your favorite things. Hopefully you will post them after for all of us to see. Beautiful lips!

It sounds like a ridiculously fun package. I'm always anxious to see what people include in their "favorite things" category.

I hope you will have a cool day for your race!

That sun does seem especially bright for a morning! You look lovely masked and glossed! What a fun surprise.

I did not catch any runner's high on my 5.5 today. What's up with that? Maybe Sara will give lessons. You WILL be fine... your body knows how to do a half marathon. Go Jordan!
Loved chatting yesterday. Miss you!

When I read that you wanted to jump into the canal you were runnings beside I thought to myself I totally relate! I run along the Potomac River every weekend and have to fight the urge to jump in. Luckily it smells of fish so it's not very hard to resist.

I must say, there is something to say about that race adrenaline. While I've never experienced the runner's high, I definitely benefit from the energy of races. Best of luck with your half-marathon.

You have so much style, so I would love to see what your favorites are. Good thing I've stalked out your blog before!:)

I've experienced receiving some lovely Good Mail from people I don't know that well. What a bizarre and lovely thing to do. How delightful to get an unexpected drop-off!

Okay, anyone who could run in the heat of today is a truly dedicated runner. Walking to my car feels like a task lately. I both applaud & envy your strides.

Glad you finally got the goods (completely my bad for the tardiness). Didn't I tell you that the liner was perfection. Your lips are divine!

Yes, the adrenaline will kick in as you hear the crunch of cups under your feet, the helicopters flying over, and everyone cheering you on.

I have been an addict to your blog for months, but have been too lame to post anything. I found you through Elizabeth's blog through Jessica's blog. You have a life similar to mine--minus one baby and my husband is an IT guy instead of a MD. You have an amazing ability with words. Pick me for your package! ;)

Jeni said...

Whoa! I thought you said you'd max out at about 16 comments...my chances are slim at winning your "grand prize." Love you!

A collection of your favorite things would be a treat for sure! Count me in as one of your contestants. You amaze me Jordan. Only a half-marathon? If only you knew the kudos I pay myself after running just one mile! :) Good luck and nice legs, girl!

Sadness! I just returned from my little hiatus in SL, was catching up on blogs that I love to find I have missed the boat! Bummer. I love to read your words (and encouragement) your favorite things would have been most fabulous for sure....next time.

What fun! Who doesn't like getting a goodie box?! You'll have to post what you sent so that we can still see what your favorites are!

I wish I had your enthusiasm. I want a runner's high, but I am not as fond of running as I once was.

Of course your favorite things package sounds like a good one. Hope it's me!!

Did I miss the deadline? I hope you'll tell us about your favorite things so even the non-winners can get a glimpse of your lovely style.
